Emphasis on technology classes for students does not really start until the late 5th grade and early 6th grade years. It makes sense, the students are starting to learn higher concepts and are a little more aware of the world around them. However, when a 4th grader comes up to you and shows you their iPhone 4S you start to wonder how much technology they are using in their free time and how quickly they mastered it.
If students that early are on devices like iPhones and other smart phones then they certainly can be used in the classroom. A worry is that they would get distracted by the devices and nothing would get done. What if instead of having the students not focus on the lesson, they are given strict guideline to device use in the classroom. Maybe then it would lay down a foundation for responsible technology using students in later grades.
